While the actual items may differ with geographical location and era, virtually every society has its own status symbols. In modern day America, there are a litany of products and achievements that serve as symbols of your place in the hierarchy of culture. One of the most notable and ubiquitous of these is fashion.

Most of us don’t condone “judging a book by its cover,” but we all do it to a certain extent. Generally speaking, you can tell a lot about a person and their place in society simply by observing their fashion sense. Gucci purses and Rolex watches, for example, have become synonymous with opulence and success.

Now that I’ve moved away from my hometown, I don’t have too many opportunities to catch-up with friends from high school. When my one of my girlfriends announced that she was getting married however, I knew that I had to make an appearance. I headed back home a few days before the ceremony so that I could attend the bachelorette party as well.

I have to admit that, in my opinion, the bachelorette party overshadowed the actual wedding. All of our friends from yesteryear got dressed up in our best designer fashions and grabbed our Fendi purses and had an epic ladies’ night. We went back to some of our favorite hangouts and went to some of the establishments that we were too young for in high school.
